LSLT: Zoom research team (NACS/HESP/LSC)

Time:
Thursday, April 14, 2022 - 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Location:
Language Science Center and Zoom

Although we will continue to offer a Zoom option for LSLT for now, we strongly encourage you to attend in person! The talk is only part of the point of LSLT: it's a good opportunity to meet and chat with students and faculty in other departments. And we've now reinstated the classic LSLT sandwich line!

Conversations on Zoom

Abstract: How is talking on Zoom different from talking in person? How do people adapt their behavior to virtual communication environments, and how could the technology be better adapted to human needs? We designed a protocol to study naturalistic conversations on Zoom. Over the past year, we've collected recordings of 144 people conversing in groups of different sizes, as well as surveys about their experiences. Analyzing such rich data is challenging, and we need help! Come find out what we've learned so far, and give us your ideas for next steps. (If you're really into it, we're looking for more people to join our team!)
