Task-based design and task complexity and L2 production

Abstract: The impact of task design and task complexity on L2 production has attracted considerable theoretical and empirical research attention in the last three decades (see meta-analyses by Jackson & Suethanapornkul, 2013; Sasayama, Malicka, & Norris, forthcoming). The talk will first place task design and task complexity within the general
context of task-based research. Secondly, overall findings of the impact of task complexity on oral and written CALF will be presented. Thirdly, processes underlying task complexity as well as their independent measurement will be analyzed. The talk will point out current as well as future directions of the field.

Bio: Roger Gilabert is a lecturer and researcher at the University of Barcelona (ubgral.com). His interests include L2 production and interaction, task design, and oral and written CAF. He has conducted research into serious games and reading skills, as well as the effects of TV genres on language learning. He currently leads a project on the automatization of task design.
