The Language House is a multicultural community in which residents work together to develop fluency in a target language and an appreciation of the historical, geographical, and sociological world of the target culture(s). As part of its mission, the Language House seeks to engage the larger community of language learners on campus.

During Coffeeloquium, we dedicate the Language Science Center Hub to writing. We encourage you to block off as much of this time as possible to come to the LSC, have some caffeine, and get your writing done. At 12:30, reward your hard work by having lunch with colleagues (Language Science Lunch Time), and let them know what you've been working on.

On weeks without a Language Science Lunch Talk, we will have Language Science Lunch Time. Come have lunch with students and faculty from other departments and talk about what you're working on. If you can, we encourage you to participate in Coffeeloquium beforehand--3 hours of uninterrupted writing time in the company of your fellow language scientists.

The 12th annual Language Science Day is scheduled for Friday, October 28, 2022.

Language Science Day (LSD) is a signature annual event for Maryland's language science community, bringing together up to 200 students and faculty from across the university and affiliated centers. Participants get to know their fellow language scientists, exchange ideas, showcase their research, and discover opportunities for training or collaboration.

All grad students and post-bacs are invited for a meeting to discuss plans for the year. Lunch will be provided! The meeting will be led by the newly-elected Graduate Student Board: Zhiyi Wu, Sanshiroh Ogawa, Kelly Marshall, and Katherine Howitt. All are welcome, regardless of whether you've been involved in LSC activities in the past.

Donate here to support the Undergraduate Research Fellowship! The more donations we get, the more students we can support!

Students in the Second Language Acquisition program are holding a tree planting ceremony to honor Professor Michael Long, who passed away in February. The event will take place on Monday October the 18th from 11.30 through noon (EST) in person in front of Jiménez Hall on the side of the McKeldin Mall, and it will also be broadcasted over Zoom (see below).
