Tree planting in honor of Mike Long

Time:
Monday, October 18, 2021 - 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM
Location:
In front of Jiménez Hall (Mall side)
Students in the Second Language Acquisition program are holding a tree planting ceremony to honor Professor Michael Long, who passed away in February. The event will take place on Monday October the 18th from 11.30 through noon (EST) in person in front of Jiménez Hall on the side of the McKeldin Mall, and it will also be broadcasted over Zoom (see below).

The planting will be led by the UMD arboretum and include some short interventions by friends and family. For those of you who are curious, the chosen tree will be an American yellowwood, Cladrastis kentukea, and we will later add a plaque in Mike's honor.

This event is not an institutional honor, but rather a token of appreciation from all those who appreciated Mike. It has been made possible thanks to the efforts of the Second Language Acquisition students and the generous donations of many people who appreciated Mike.
