Language House Language Chats
The Language House is a multicultural community in which residents work together to develop fluency in a target language and an appreciation of the historical, geographical, and sociological world of the target culture(s). As part of its mission, the Language House seeks to engage the larger community of language learners on campus.
All are welcome to come practice, improve, or maintain language skills in a casual setting over coffee and snacks. Every Monday, we open the doors of St. Mary's Hall 4-5.30 PM to welcome people who want to share their language or practice any language that they are learning or have learned.
The language tables that are available on a regular basis are Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. However, if you would like to practice a language that is not listed here, let us know at languagehouse@umd.edu!
We strive to connect with other programs on campus, like the Language Partner Program and the International Student and Scholar Services. This year, we are hosting the Language Chats together with the orientation to the Language Partner Program on February 6th. And in collaboration with the International Student Services, we are hosting the International Coffee Hour on Thursdays March 30th and April 27th 2.30-3.30 PM at St. Mary's Hall.
