LSLT: Sandra Sandoval (CS)

Time:
Thursday, February 24, 2022 - 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Location:
LSC Garage (2124 H.J. Patterson) and online

Although we will continue to offer a Zoom option for LSLT for now, we strongly encourage you to attend in person! The talk is only part of the point of LSLT: it's a good opportunity to meet and chat with students and faculty in other departments. This week we'll have coffee and dessert to make it worth the walk across campus!

Analysis of Human Utterances using Natural Language Processing Approaches

Sandra will give an overview of her analytical process for exploring the relationships between words in transcribed text from human speech and measures of trust. Her focus will be on describing the early stages of a collaborative project with the Laboratory for Applied Social Science Research to analyze their text data from transcriptions of police scenario virtual reality simulations. Specifically, she will first provide a half-hour overview of the project’s preliminary research goals, data available and analytical techniques used to date. The remainder of the time will be focused on soliciting discussion and ideas for possible future research directions.
