Language Science Lunch Talk: Sathvik Nair (LING)

Time:
Thursday, February 15, 2024 - 12:15 PM to 1:30 PM
Location:
Language Science Center (2130 HJ Patterson Hall)

From Code Switching to Coding to Both? “Growing Up” Academically in a Changing Interdisciplinary Field.

Abstract: Learning about linguistics, I was thinking about how the human mind could deal with something so complex, and how to model it. When I learned about NLP, I was thinking about how some of the technology could relate to describing human language use. So of course, I decided to do research and go to grad school, and build my career as a cognitive scientist. And then in my first semester of grad school, everyone knew what a language model is. How have I dealt with it? How's it affecting my research? How much have my research goals changed? You might be surprised.

Lunch served at 12:15 PM. Vegetarian options availalble. Let us know if you have other dietary restrictions.
