Title: Understanding and Enhancing the Brain Basis of Aphasia Recovery

Abstract: Most people with stroke-related aphasia never fully recover language and communication abilities. Although speech-language therapy can help, we need additional treatment options to achieve better recoveries. We now have tools to noninvasively modulate brain activity using electrical or magnetic stimulation. Developing optimized brain stimulation treatments requires a better understanding of the brain basis of aphasia recovery. In this talk, I will summarize our current understanding of the brain basis of language and aphasia recovery, and will discuss the current state of research on brain stimulation treatments for aphasia.
