Language Science Lunch Talk: Colin Phillips (LING/Oxford)

Time:
Thursday, September 05, 2024 - 12:15 PM to 1:30 PM
Location:
Language Science Center (2130 HJ Patterson Hall)

Mixing things up: Crossing borders and moving borders.

"This year’s LSLT theme invites presenters to reflect on (inter)disciplinarity and how they choose styles of work and questions to pursue. Given my history with this term, it is only fair that I should tackle these questions. I will talk about how my own work has changed over the years, and about the role of questions, methods, and values in defining fields of study, and how sometimes the borders between fields move, changing what counts as interdisciplinary. If this all sounds hopelessly meta, fear not! I will talk about discoveries that I find cool, and why I think they’re cool."

Lunch served at 12:15 PM.
