Assistant Professor – Speech and Language Science/Disorders

The Department of Hearing & Speech Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Professor in the area of Speech and Language Science/Disorders, beginning Fall 2023. [https://ejobs.umd.edu/postings/99434].
 
We seek an active scholar with a record of innovative research and teaching in the area(s) of speech and language. This can include but is not limited to the following: motor speech disorders, swallowing, voice disorders, neurodegeneration, augmentative and alternative communication, developmental language disorders, cultural and linguistic diversity, or autism and pragmatics. Position
Responsibilities include establishing an independent research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring graduate students, and participating in departmental and university activities. Colleagues who would be interested in developing research ties with interdisciplinary initiatives on campus, such as the Neuroscience and Cognitive Science Program, Maryland Language Science Center, Center for the Comparative and Evolutionary Biology of Hearing, Brain and Behavior Institute, and University of Maryland Autism Research Consortium and Maryland Cochlear Implant Center of Excellence, are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a doctorate (Ph.D.) in relevant discipline (i.e., speech-language pathology, psychology, linguistics). We seek an active scholar with a record of innovative research and teaching in the area(s) of speech and language. This can include but is not limited to the following: motor speech disorders, swallowing, voice disorders, neurodegeneration, augmentative and alternative communication, developmental language disorders, cultural and linguistic diversity, or autism and pragmatics. About the Department
The Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences trains future researchers and clinicians through an undergraduate program, a MA in speech language pathology (program ranked 16th in the nation), a doctorate in clinical audiology (program ranked 10th in the nation), and a research-oriented PhD program. We have strong interdisciplinary collaborations with other units on campus. Founded in 1856, University of Maryland, College Park is the state’s flagship institution. Our 1,250-acre College Park campus is near Washington, D.C., providing an opportunity for collaborations with researchers from the National Institutes of Health, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and the University of Maryland Medical School, as well as connections with the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
