Infant and Child Studies

The Infant and Child Studies Consortium, composed of ten labs across the Departments of Hearing and Speech Sciences, Linguistics, Psychology, and Human Development, works to answer questions about how children think, hear, and speak. Children are phenomenal learners, and understanding how their environment and cognitive skills shape that learning is critical for improving our schools and intervening when children face difficulties, as well as informing fundamental theories in language and cognitive sciences.

Recent Infant and Child studies have explored topics such as children’s social-emotional, memory, mathematics, and language development, both in typically-developing children and those at risk for later cognitive impairments. Researchers collaborate on projects across multiple departments and share resources, such as a participant database and united outreach and community partnership efforts.
