NACS Seminar: Arielle Borovsky (Purdue)

Maryland Language Science Center | Neuroscience and Cognitive Science Friday, April 1, 2022 10:15 am - 11:30 am Zoom

Insights into early language skills from semantic network modeling Abstract: Measures of early vocabulary skills often focus on the number of words children know and say, and this enterprise has yielded many insights into the development of early language skills. But early word acquisition is not random – children learn words that build on their accumulated experience. In this talk I will share work from my lab that asks whether and how graph-theoretic measures of the structure of the early lexicon shed light on mechanisms that support language processing and word learning, and consider how these insights may have applied potential for early identification and intervention in language disorders and delay.
