Ending the summer with a bang, the Maryland Language Science Center headed to the 2024 Library of Congress National Book Festival alongside The Maryland Initiative for Literacy & Equity (MILE) and the Language Science Station.

The MLSC, accompanied by The Maryland Initiative for Literacy & Equity (MILE) and the Language Science Station was one of ten Featured Organizations in the STEM District, offering interactive experiences that combined STEM with literature and art.

The MLSC hosted engaging, family-friendly activities involving language and literacy including International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) name tags and Bilingual Barnyard, where visitors hear how different languages say different animal sounds. MILE offered trivia activities, stickers, and coloring sheets centered around the theme of “Literacy and Justice for All,” while the Language Science Station allowed attendees to demo their research study using fNIRS headsets to see an image of their brain.
