Guatemala Workshop on Mayan Language Instruction and Research

With the paint barely dry in LSC’s new home in HJ Patterson Hall, Winter Storm 2017 showed what is possible when an engaged grassroots community is combined with a space that is designed for collaboration.

The Language Science Center's Guatemala Field Station will be holding a workshop on Mayan language instruction and research at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, Campus Altiplano , Sololá on November 8-11. Forty five instructors in several Mayan languages (Kaqchikel, K'iche', Awakateko, Chalchiteko, Mam, Tz'utujiil, and Chuj) will be attending the workshop at the Guatemala Field Station which will help them develop innovative methodologies of Mayan language instruction and provide training for research in Mayan languages, including work on Mayan languages in contact conducted by Drs. Pedro Mateo Pedro and Maria Polinsky , in collaboration with Dr. Ajb'ee Jiménez and Licenciada Nikte' Sis
