CASL launches new book series

CASL is working to correct a state of affairs through a new series of grammars describing under-documented languages.

Did you know that almost 200 million people speak Bangla – that’s more than speak Russian. And that as many people speak Punjabi as speak German. Pashto, the primary language of Afghanistan, is spoken by 40 million people – that’s more than the population of Canada. But these languages are woefully understudied. CASL is working to correct this state of affairs through a new series of grammars describing under-documented languages. The first in this series, a grammar of Pashto by Anne David, was recently published, and featured in this UMD Right Now news report Following volumes in the series will include grammars of Bangla, Dhivehi (Maldivian), and Punjabi.
