Join the College of Education's Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadershup for the first annual Transdisciplinary Approaches to Language and Literacy in Educational Research (TALLER) Conference. Meaning “workshop” in Spanish, TALLER seeks to provide a platform for graduate students to discuss and exchange ideas that push traditional boundaries of education research. 

The inaugural theme of the conference is Multilingualism and Multiliteracies. The goal of the conference is to explore how educators, researchers, policymakers, and students pursue social justice and equity in conversations about multilingualism and multiliteracies in diverse educational environments.

The conference will feature two distinguished keynote speakers:

  • Dr. April Baker-Bell, an award-winning transdisciplinary teacher-researcher-activist and Associate Professor of Language, Culture, and Justice in Education at the University of Michigan in the Marsal Family School of Education. Dr. Baker-Bell is an international leader in conversations on Black Language education, and her research interrogates the intersections of Black Language and literacies, anti-Black racism, and antiracist pedagogies.
  • Dr. Bedrettin Yazan, Associate Professor in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Yazan has extensive experience teaching English in Türkiye and preparing teachers to work with English language learners in the US. He has served in various roles within TESOL and AAAL and focuses his research on language teacher learning and identity, collaboration between ESL and content-area teachers, language policy and planning, and world Englishes.

Their participation highlights the opportunity for collaboration, dialogue, and inspiration during the conference.
