SLA Speaker Series - Norbert Schmitt

Maryland Language Science Center | School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures | Second Language Acquisition Thursday, February 27, 2025 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm Zoom,

Norbert Schmitt has worked on vocabulary issues since 1992 and has taken an interest in explaining vocabulary learning and use. The field has explained various individual facets of vocabulary learning, and how repetition facilitates learning, incidental exposure can lead to learning, and how explicit attention to vocabulary speeds learning. But the field has never been able to develop a model of how overall vocabulary learning happens.

In this presentation, Schmitt will share ideas of what an overall model of vocabulary acquisition might look like, based on a CIIP perspective: Vocabulary knowledge is Complex, Integrated, Incremental and learning it is a Process.

Join us on Zoom on February 27 from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. (EST).
