Maryland Language Science Center | School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Thursday, April 9, 2026 9:30 am - 1:30 pm Jimenez Hall

The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures will host its third annual Languages Mean the World Day on April 9, 2026. The event will welcome more than 300 prospective sophomore and junior students from Anne Arundel County and Howard County public schools. All participating students are currently enrolled in world language courses, with many involved in honors courses, language honor societies and clubs.

Students will be divided into small groups led by SLLC ambassadors and rotate through a series of interactive sessions. These include a mock language class, visits to the Language House and the College of Arts and Humanities, and presentations from the University Career Center, the National Scholarships Office and Education Abroad. Sessions are designed to highlight academic programs, extracurricular opportunities and international experiences.

Participants will also take a guided campus tour featuring key landmarks, including McKeldin Library, the Mall, Francis Scott Key Hall and Jiménez Hall, the central hub for language learning at the University of Maryland.

Languages Mean the World Day offers an engaging introduction to SLLC and highlights the academic and global opportunities available through language study at the University of Maryland, College Park.

The event is not open to the public.
