Revolutions in Cognitive Science? A discussion about the role of AI in how we think about the mind
Abstract: Today’s generative AI technologies based on Large Language Models (LLMs) can produce fluent text that appears to reflect deep linguistic abilities. But how much do AI systems really “know” about language? And to what extent can they be used in making discoveries about how humans learn and use language? In this discussion moderated by Samer Nour Eddine (MLSC), Philip Resnik (LING/UMIACS) and Ethan Gotlieb Wilcox (Georgetown, Linguistics) will discuss the opportunities and pitfalls of LLMs as tools in cognitive science.
