On February 27, John McWhorter joins us from Columbia University, with a talk titled "Affixless in Flores: Why Flores is a Puzzle and What to Do About It." The talk, for a language science audience, argues that "some unusual languages on the island of Flores which are useful in a lesson that languages do not have a tendency to simplify, and that when they do, it is a sign of extensive use of the language as a second or third one by adults."
