April 3, the Cognitive Science Colloquium welcomes Eldar Shafir, Professor of Behavioral Science and Public Policy at Princeton, to discuss the effects of scarcity and poverty on decision making. The abstract is below.

The behavioral challenges of poverty contexts

The talk will consider various behavioral challenges that arise in contexts of poverty, from attentional and bandwidth demands, to stereotypes, societal narratives, and a variety of obstacles. Informed by this, we will briefly consider some implications for the tension between empirical social science and the role of intuition in the conduct of policy.
