Town Hall: The future of Language @ Maryland

Time:
Thursday, December 05, 2019 - 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Location:
Language Science Center (2130 H.J. Patterson)

Recent information on funding has made it clear that the language science community faces urgent challenges. We need to set priorities for how to move forward with significantly reduced university support, including greatly reduced staffing of the LSC, AND we need to find creative solutions to continue things that we regard as important for the success of the community. We invite all members of the language science community to attend the town hall so we can discuss priorities and collectively make plans for the future.

We will hold two meetings in parallel: one more focused on issues relevant to students (led by Jan Edwards in the seminar room, 2123 HJP), and one more aimed at faculty (led by Jeff Lidz and Hal Daumé in the Garage, 2124 HJP). Grad students are welcome to join the faculty meeting if they prefer, but the student meeting will be just for students.

As usual, we'll have DIY sandwiches for lunch starting at 12:15.
