The role of syntactic category in auditory word recognition

Context is known to facilitate auditory word recognition, but the mechanisms by which this occurs are not clear. In this talk, I will discuss conflicting evidence for the role of syntactic category and a potential explanation suggested by computational modeling. I will then propose a series of experiments aimed at reconciling the conflict, clarifying the interplay of top-down and bottom-up information, and strengthening our linking hypotheses between theory and dependent measure.
