Language, music, and cognitive control

Our impressive abilities to process complex sound and structure may be most evident in language and music. Although growing evidence suggests that there are important relationships between these domains, it remains unclear exactly what these relationships reflect. I will discuss some work investigating the cognitive processes underlying relationships between structural (syntactic) processing in language and music (especially in terms of linguistic and musical ambiguity), and the possibility that musical training may affect non-musical cognitive abilities.
