On September 30th, over 150 faculty, researchers, graduate students, and undergraduates from 17 departments and centers across campus gathered for the 7th annual Language Science Day (LSD). LSD is a great opportunity at the beginning of the academic year for language scientists to meet or reconnect and catch up on what’s happening in the community. This year the event focused specifically on creating and strengthening interdisciplinary research collaborations here at UMD.

The Language Science Center hosted two conferences on transforming graduate education - both with collaborative, interactive formats that generated a lot of enthusiasm and ideas from the different groups involved.

On September 25th, the 6th annual Language Science Day (LSD) drew a crowd of almost 200 people - plus a couple of unexpected fire trucks. Faculty, graduate students, researchers, and undergraduates from 17 departments and centers were joined by guests from local public school systems, researchers from UMBC, Howard University, and Johns Hopkins, as well as UMD’s Vice President for Research and some of the deans who support the language science initiative.
