Committee Meeting

All grad students and post-bacs are invited for a meeting to discuss plans for the year. Lunch will be provided! The meeting will be led by the elected Graduate Student Board. All are welcome, regardless of whether you've been involved in LSC activities in the past.

Food at 12:15pm. Meeting Start at 12:30pm.

The Language Science Graduate Student Board is hosting a discussion about Winter Storm 2023. Winter Storm is a great opportunity to learn with and from your peers across the language science community. Are there research questions you want to develop with people from other fields? Are there research skills you need to make progress in your work, or professional skills to take the next step in your career? Bring your ideas and we'll figure out how to make them happen!

All grad students are invited to come discuss plans for the coming year. Topics will include: student-led activities (outreach, writing groups, ...?); plans for formalizing student membership in the LSC and establishing an elected Graduate Student Board; Language Science Day; Winter Storm 2022. 1st and 2nd year students who are now on campus for the first time are especially encouraged to attend!

As part of LSC's review process, all graduate students are invited to meet with our external reviewers to discuss their perspective on LSC's current graduate education programs, the recommendations of the graduate education committee, and other ideas for the future of LSC graduate education programs.

Over the last several months five committees (comprising 37 faculty and students) have been meeting to evaluate LSC's activities and discuss priorities for the future.

**Note later than usual start time (to accommodate those attending the job talk in HDQM). Lunch served by 12:30.

Student meeting to discuss plans for the semester, including outreach activities, professional development workshops, and continued discussions on the future of graduate training at the LSC (e.g. the Student Cooperative).

Recent information on funding has made it clear that the language science community faces urgent challenges. We need to set priorities for how to move forward with significantly reduced university support, including greatly reduced staffing of the LSC, AND we need to find creative solutions to continue things that we regard as important for the success of the community. We invite all members of the language science community to attend the town hall so we can discuss priorities and collectively make plans for the future.

Language scientists, your research matters! Our community's output touches on many areas of policy, including health care, education, and technology. Join us to discuss how the UMD language science community can work together to impact policy objectives locally, with a view to establishing a network of expertise for policy makers and the public to consult.

Lunch will be served, so please email Lara Ehrenhofer (ehrenhof@umd.edu) to RSVP by 3pm on Wednesday (10/11).

End of year student meeting, to announce new committee leadership and discuss objectives for 2017-2018.
